Chad has been playing guitar, bass, and piano since he was young, with an early love for blues, U2, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, and REM. He later developed much of his eclectic musical repertoire alongside his best friend and longtime Roots 101 member, Josh Walsman, in college at Indiana University and at the Old Town School of Folk Music.
While a professor at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, Chad played electric bass in jazz ensembles for five years. There he developed a passion for all sorts of jazz from ragtime to swing to Latin jazz. While taking music theory classes and practicing intensively during his time at Knox, he honed his composition, chart-reading and playing skills on the bass.
Back in Chicago, Chad is thrilled to be laying the foundation for the more emotive, but still cerebral, rock and reggae styles of Roots 101.
